Carlton Research, LLC operates https://carltonresearch.com/ and related pages and tools, including the Coercive Control Observatory and the Evidence Vault at evidence.carltonresearch.com (the Site). This Privacy Policy states what information the Site collects, how Carlton Research uses that information, and what choices you have.

Information you send us

When you email Carlton Research or request a case review, we receive what you put in the message: name, email, phone, and any facts or files you choose to include. We use that material to answer you, to decide whether an engagement fits, and to perform work only after written engagement terms exist. A website inquiry alone does not open a forensic file.

Evidence Vault

The contents of each Evidence Vault are protected by a password the client creates and controls. Carlton Research, LLC staff have no tool to open vault contents. Carlton Research, LLC keeps an encrypted recovery copy of each file key so that the “Forgot this password” option can function.

To provide the Evidence Vault, Carlton Research, LLC collects the client’s email address, the purchase tier selected, and payment status. Payments are processed by Stripe. Carlton Research, LLC does not receive card numbers.

Usage analytics on the Evidence Vault site are described in the “Evidence Vault and service providers” section. These analytics do not record vault contents or any information the client types into the Evidence Vault.

A client may delete their vault. Deletion is permanent, and deleted content cannot be recovered.

Evidence Vault and service providers

Carlton Research, LLC operates the Evidence Vault at evidence.carltonresearch.com. Carlton Research, LLC uses the following service providers for the Evidence Vault:

  • Anthropic, PBC, for AI analysis of the text a user selects for analysis.
  • Cloudflare, for hosting and storage.
  • Stripe, for payments.
  • Resend, for account email.
  • Google Analytics 4 with Google Ads conversion measurement, Microsoft Clarity, and Slimstat, for analytics on the Evidence Vault’s public pages, as described below.

Analytics on the Evidence Vault

Google Analytics 4 with Google Ads conversion measurement, Microsoft Clarity, and Slimstat run only on the Evidence Vault’s public pages, and only after the visitor clicks Allow on the consent banner. None of these tools run on the sign-in page, at checkout, or inside the vault.

A visitor can change this choice with the “Analytics settings” link in the footer. Once Clarity loads, Microsoft may set its own cookies on its own domains.

On carltonresearch.com itself, Google Analytics 4 (through Google Site Kit), Microsoft Clarity, and Slimstat load when a page loads, without a consent banner, as described in the Site visits and analytics section.

AI analysis

Anthropic, PBC deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days. Anthropic, PBC keeps them longer only if they are flagged for a usage-policy violation. Anthropic, PBC does not train its models on them.

Encryption

Vault files are encrypted in the user’s browser before storage. Carlton Research, LLC keeps an encrypted recovery copy of each file key so that the “Forgot this password” option works. Carlton Research, LLC staff have no tool to open files.

Retention and deletion

Carlton Research, LLC keeps files until the user deletes them, or until the account is deleted after one year of inactivity.

For the Agent API, uploads, reports, and excerpts are deleted 30 days after the report.

A user can delete their account and files at any time.

Payments

Payment method is through Stripe. Carlton Research does not have access to your card number.

Stay Updated subscription

The Stay Updated subscription collects a first name, a last name, and an email, and those go to a HubSpot client list. Carlton Research does not share that list.

Cookies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies needed for sign-in, payment, and site analytics. The analytics tools are listed under Site visits and analytics below. Carlton Research does not sell personal information.

Site visits and analytics

The Site records visits using server logs and analytics tools. The analytics tools are:

  • Google Analytics 4, through Google Site Kit
  • Microsoft Clarity, which makes session recordings and heatmaps, with masking that hides sensitive content
  • Slimstat
  • Jetpack Stats
  • Apollo.io website visitor identification, which may identify the company or organization a visit comes from

These logs and tools generally collect the pages viewed, the referring site, device and browser type, approximate location from IP address, and the time of the visit.

Carlton Research uses this information to understand and improve the Site and to learn which organizations visit.

You can limit this tracking through your browser settings, such as blocking or deleting cookies, by using an ad blocker or tracker blocker, or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

How we use information

We use Site and contact information to run and improve the Site, to respond to inquiries, to deliver forensic services under engagement, and to meet legal or professional duties. Inquiry content is not marketing inventory.

Sharing

We do not sell data to anyone. We do not share information with anyone except as expressly directed to do so or as described in this Privacy Policy, including with the service providers and analytics companies named below. Case materials received under engagement follow the engagement terms and applicable professional rules. Those materials are not Site content.

Service providers who run the Site (Cloudflare for hosting and file storage; Stripe for payments; HubSpot for the Stay Updated list; Anthropic, PBC for AI analysis of text a user selects; and Resend for account email) handle data only to provide those services.

Google (Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads conversion measurement), Microsoft (Microsoft Clarity), Automattic, maker of Jetpack (Jetpack Stats), and Apollo.io (website visitor identification) receive site visit data. Slimstat keeps its visit records in the Site’s own WordPress database.

Carlton Research, LLC does not control information collected by these third parties. Each one has its own terms of service and privacy policy:

Retention

We keep inquiry and engagement records as long as the purpose requires, as long as legitimate business or legal needs require, or as long as law requires. Retention of Evidence Vault contents is governed by the rules set out in the “Evidence Vault and service providers” section.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13. Carlton Research does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site.

Your choices

You can email carisa@carltonresearch.com to ask what personal information we hold from Site contact, to request correction, or to request deletion where applicable law allows. Third-party analytics tools may also offer browser or provider opt-outs.

Changes

Carlton Research may update this Privacy Policy. The Last updated date above will change when that happens. Continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
